Overview
Mera Peak (6,461m) is the highest trekking peak in Nepal and one of the best choices for climbers who want a real Himalayan experience without extreme technical difficulty. Located in the beautiful Makalu Barun National Park, this 12-day short expedition takes you through the quiet and scenic Hinku Valley, away from the busy trekking routes.
This trip is perfect for trekkers who want to step into mountaineering or for those with limited time. The itinerary is well planned with enough acclimatization days, making the climb safe, comfortable, and enjoyable. With guidance from experienced mountain guides, you will learn basic climbing skills while enjoying stunning alpine landscapes.
From the summit of Mera Peak, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of five of the world’s highest mountains, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Kanchenjunga.

Schedule Details
Day 01 : Kathmandu to Lukla Flight and uphill trek till Chhuthang
Kathmandu Elevation: 1,345 meters
Lukla Elevation: 2,800 meters
Chhutang Elevation: 3,020 meters
Elevation Gain: 1,675 meters
You will commence your Short Mera Peak Climbing expedition after a short scenic cross-valley flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. It is an approximate 30- 35-minute flight, enjoying the panoramic aerial views of the lush green hills, valleys, and magnificent Himalayan vistas you will arrive at Lukla. If you have any unfinished shopping you can do it here, after meeting the rest of the expedition crew here, you will further proceed to the second adventure part of the day.
Following the scenic trail on the southwest of the Lukla, you will pass through beautiful rhododendron and pine forests and trek across several vibrant local settlements just below the Kalo Himal Ridge. The Lukla to Chhuthang trail is relatively easy as you most trek across the flat surface and after about 4 hours of trekking, you will finally arrive at your destination.
Day 02 : Chhuthang to Tuli Kharka Trek crossing Zatrawala Pass

Tuli Kharka Elevation: 4,300 meters
Zatrawala Pass Elevation: 4,600 meters
Elevation Gain: 1,500 meters
The second day of your Short Mera Peak Climbing will be quite a bit of a challenge as you will pass one of the highest Himalayan passes, Zatrawala Pass. During the first part of the trek you will trek across the lush forests and pasturelands, and then you will further proceed to climb over the Kalo Himal Ridge which will lead you to Zatrawala Pass, this beautiful pass separates the Hinku and Khumbu Valleys. From the top of this high Himalayan pass you will be able to enjoy the magnificent views of the peaks like Kongde Ri, Karyolung, Number Himal, and several others.
After enjoying the spectacular views from the top of this pass, you continue your descending trek which will take about 2 hours to reach Tuli Kharka, a big meadow. Overnight stay at a of teahouses in Tuli Kharka.
Day 03 : Trek from Tuli Kharka to Kothe
Tuli Kharka Elevation: 4,300 meters
Kothe Elevation: 4,182 meters
Elevation Loss: 118 meters
On Day 3 of your Short Mera Peak Climbing, you will trek through the upper Hinku Valley and descend down to the Kothe. Moving on with the rhododendron and pine forest during the first part of the adventure, you will be able to enjoy stunning views of Kusum Kanguru, Peak 43, Nauleka, and Mera Peak. Passing Majang Khola, you will switch your trail towards the Hinku Khola and arrive at the small Himalayan settlement Tashingongma (Thulodhunga), you will take your break here enjoying the surrounding scenery.
During the last stretch of this day’s adventure, you will cross a wooden bridge over the Sanu Khola to finally arrive at Kothe. This will be the biggest Sherpa Village you will encounter during this adventure, enjoying the mesmerizing views of the Mera Peak on the northeast side, you will rest here tonight.
Day 04 : Kothe to Thangnak Trek
Kothe Elevation: 4,182 meters
Thagnak Elevation: 4,326 meters
Elevation Gain: 144 meters
This day’s trekking adventure will let you enjoy the spectacular views of the Mera Peak throughout the day, on Day 4 of your Short Mera Peak Climbing adventure, you will trek across an amazing trail decorated with rhododendrons, oak, juniper, and pine forests. Following the ridge along the Hinku Khola, you will first push for Gondishung, summer herder’s settlements on the west bank of the river.
After enjoying your delicious lunch here, you will move along the trail stretching toward Thangnak and also visit the 200-year-old Buddhist gompa, Lungsumgba Gompa. From here, you will just need to cover a little distance to finally arrive at Thangnak, a summer grazing pasture land with several teahouses. Besides the views of Mera Peak, the amazing beauty of Charpati Himal, Thamserku, and Kusum Kanaguru will delight this day’s adventure.
Day 05 : Reach Khare from Thangnak
Thagnak Elevation: 4,326 meters
Khare Elevation: 5,000 meters
Elevation Gain: 674 meters
After leaving behind Thangnak, on the fifth day of your Short Mera Peak Climbing, you will venture to the Dig Kharka and pass the Charpat Tal, a glacial lake. Moving further on the trail, you will descend down the Dig Kharka and move across the Hinku Nup and Shar Glacier, in this scenic path, you will be able to enjoy the clear view of Mera Peak, and Charpati Himal including the Kyeshhar Glacier.
Then, proceeding further on the trail, you will come across a small upstream, this gradual climb will load you a wider open ground with several lodges. From here, you will follow a steep climb that stretches all the way to Khare, situated right beside a small stream with a few teahouses.
Day 06 : Rest at Khare
Khare Elevation: 5,000 meters
Since you have already gained a significant altitude, this will be a rest day so that you can properly acclimatize to the rising altitude before starting the climb. On Day 6 of your Short Mera Peak Climbing, you will also have some pre-climbing training and equipment check to make sure everything is in order for the summit part of this adventure starting tomorrow.
As some light physical activities are recommended for an effective acclimatization process, you can do some short hikes around the region too. In the evening your expedition will also brief you about the upcoming adventure and what to expect, you will rest here tonight preparing for the big expedition.
Day 07 : Khare to Mera High Camp
Khare Elevation: 5,000 meters
Mera High Camp Elevation: 5,300 meters
Elevation Gain: 300 meters
Your big adventure on the Short Mera Peak Climbing will finally begin on Day 7, you will follow the straightforward ascend across the Mera Glacier which will bring you to the Mera Base Camp. After arriving at the base camp, you will prepare for scaling on the Mera Peak to move to the high camp, it is a short hike that will take approximately 2 hours over the massive rock at the base camp.
It’s an easy day’s ascending gradual ascending trail as you move toward the high camp, there are no technical segments on the mountain till this point, just the cold alpine environment on the rising altitude makes this uphill climb a little bit challenging. You will rest at a safe camping site on the high camp enjoying the warm nourishing meal prepared by your expedition team. As the scaling of the summit starts early in the morning, eat a balanced diet and get enough rest for the big day tomorrow.
Day 08 : Summit Mera Peak and descend to Khare

Mera Peak Summit Elevation: 6,461 meters
Elevation Gain: 1,161 meters
Finally, it is time to push all the way to the summit of this beautiful Himalayan peak, you will start your scaling as early as 2: 00 A.M as the mid-day wind at such a high altitude can be pretty harsh. Secured by the manrope you will follow the expedition leader with the help of the headlamp making your way toward the summit. Before reaching the summit there is a technical section 40-50 meters ahead of the summit, you will have to use fixed rope and jumar to climb over the snow dome to reach the summit of the Mera Peak.
From the top of the Mera Peak, you will be able to enjoy the magnificent views of the five of the highest mountain in the world Makalu (8,481 meters), Lhotse (8,516 meters), Cho Oyu (8,201 meters), Kanchenjunga (8,586 meters) and the highest snow-clad peak in the world Mt. Everest at 8,849 meters including several other adjacent peaks. After relishing the views from the top of this charming Himalayan peak, you will start to descend on the mountain. You will trek all the way down to the Khare and celebrate your victory, you will get your well-deserved rest here tonight before you start your trekking back journey concluding the Short Mera Peak Climbing.
Day 09 : Trek back from Khare to Kothe
Khare Elevation: 5,000 meters
Kothe Elevation: 4,182 meters
Elevation Loss: 818 meters
On Day 9 of your Short Mera Peak Climbing, you will start on your descending trail after a hearty breakfast. Following the scenic trail along Thangnak, you will retrace your steps back on the glacial moraines and Dig Kharka, taking short breaks and enjoying the gradual downhill trek you will push all the way for Kothe. During the last stretch of this day’s adventure, you will re-enter the lush terrain and trek across the beautiful juniper, oak, pine, and rhododendron forest as you move across the Hinku Khola and finally arrive at the beautiful Sherpa village Kothe.
In this downhill trek, you will be greeted with stunning views of mountain peaks like Charpati Himal, Kusu Kanaguru, Thamserku, Mera, and several others but from a different perspective. Enjoying the scenic views of the surrounding mountain peak, you will rest here tonight.
Day 10 : Trek from Kothe to Tuli Kharka
Kothe Elevation: 4,182 meters
Tuli Kharka Elevation: 4,300 meters
Elevation Gain: 118 meters
Continuing your returning trail in Short Mera Peak Climbing, today, you will leave Kothe behind moving toward the Tuli Kharka. Starting your adventure after crossing a wooden bridge over the Sanu Khola you will follow your trail towards the Hinku Khola passing the scenic trails decorated by colorful rhododendrons, juniper, and pine forests. Enjoying the spectacular views of the Mera Peak, Peak 43, and Majang Khola you will make your way toward the upper Hinku Valley.
It is a little gradual climb during the last stretch of this day’s trek as you make your way to Kothe, you will be welcomed by the clear magnificent views of the Mera Peak on the northeast side as you settle in for the night.
Day 11 : Trek from Tuli Kharka to Lukla via Zatrawala Pass

Zatrawala Pass Elevation: 4,600 meters
Lukla Elevation: 2,800 meters
Elevation Loss: 1,500 meters
This is another adventurous day’s trekking in your Short Mera Peak Climbing as you retrace your steps back to the high Himalayan pas Zatrawala Pass. Passing the beautiful trails alongside the pine and rhododendron forest, you will trek across several tributary rivers of the Inkhu Khola. After arriving at Tuli Kharka you will start your push for the Zatrawala Pass, enjoying the amazing mountain views from the top of this high Himalayan pass, you will descend down to the Lukla.
Day 11 will be the final day of this beautiful Himalayan expedition where you will be able to relish the vibrant beauty of the Himalayan town and the allurement of the high-altitude region in the country. You will end your adventure on a high note at Lukla, the gateway of Everest enjoying the amazing hospitality of the finest teahouse in the region.
Day 12 :Flight to Kathmandu from Lukla and transfer to hotel

Concluding your amazing Himalayan adventure, you will make your way back to the capital city leaving behind the Himalayan region. Day 12 of your Short Mera Peak Climbing will officially mark the end of this amazing Himalayan adventure and you will board an early morning flight from Lukla heading towards Kathmandu.
On your way back, you will be able to enjoy the stunning aerial views of the Himalayan region one last time as you move across the green hills and bustling valleys making your way toward Kathmandu. After your arrival in Kathmandu, our representative will drop you back at your respective hotel, for the remaining part of the day, you could do some sightseeing or just stroll around enjoying the vibe of this beautiful city. If you want to collect souvenirs you could also the major marketplaces like Asan, and Thamel, or cultural sites like Patan Durbar Square and Kathmandu Durbar Square.
